Museum of Contemporary Art

A Sydney must see is the Museum of Contemporary Art, as the name suggests, this particular Museum focuses solely on the exhibition, interpretation and collection of contemporary art. The locals call it the Museum of modern classics, and they wouldn’t be too far away from the truth.

John Power, the Australian artist gave his personal fortune over to the University of Sydney for the sole purpose for building a hub for new artists and to pay homage to modern artists. Its collection consists of work not only produced by the brightest students of the university, but also of the best artists around Australia and other contemporary artists from around the globe.

The Sydney Symphony orchestra

An icon and beacon for Sydney culture and art, the SSO, play over 150 concerts a year to more than 350,000 people and have the privilege of having a residency at the Sydney Opera House.

World renowned, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra wow fans with an annual outdoor concern called the Symphony in the Domain. This is a free outdoor picnic concert held in a park known as ‘the domain’ and attracts music fans the world over. On average attendance is around 80,000 people per outdoor concert and is testament to the art environment in Sydney where no one is excluded from art and culture.

The Orchestra began in 1932 and has played in a variety of locations before settling on the Sydney Opera House in 1982.

In the 50’s and 70’s the Orchestra took their show on the road with a tour of Europe where they played several shows in Amsterdam and Hague.

These days they don’t leave Sydney, so if you want to experience the finest music available, you’ll have to go to Sydney.

New Years Eve

There are two images that represent the New Year; one is tickertape falling in Times Square and the second is the Sydney Harbour fireworks show. As Australia is one of the first nations to experience the clock pass midnight, all eyes across the globe are naturally on Australia and Australia doesn’t disappoint.
